General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of Ministry of Justice is the Beneficiary of this technical assistance while the Ministry of Justice acts as the Lead Institution. With the project, it was aimed at providing technical assistance to the End Beneficiary and the affiliated penal institutions under two components, the first of which is capacity building, and the second is cooperation and raising awareness.

The specific purposes of the technical assistance are  to help minimizing the negative effects of the prison environment on the children living with their mothers in penal institutions, to increase the percentage of properly supported children staying with their mothers in penal institutions compared to total number of children in the same situation, to form a basis for the prospective actions for the children whose parents are in penal institutions, and to reduce adverse impact on children of convicted and detained mothers living inside and on children whose parents are in prison.

In line with these purposes, 4 main results were achieved: daily life and education programs for children staying in penal institutions with their mothers were established, the capacity of convicted/detained mothers and personnel of penal institutions were developed, cooperation with relevant sectors and raising awareness that will contribute to the children staying with their mothers in penal institutions were increased, the needs of children whose parents are in prisons were identified.
